In brief the project outline is as follows: Project Objective: To strengthen learning and support opportunities for informal carers of the elderly in the community through the development of training tools for volunteers and informal carers. Specific Objective Exchange best practice and determine methodologies for the training of informal carers and volunteer care assistants of the elderly. Outline of project: The project would set up a learning partnership among at least 4 EU countries to explore best practice on training and learning of informal carers and volunteers and will result in the development of a toolkit for training and learning of informal family carers and volunteers of the elderly in the community. This training would focus on ethics of volunteering in the community, how to build volunteering in the community, identification of needs of informal family carers and basics of caring. The Project would bring together good practice on training for volunteers and informal family carers of the elderly in the community across Europe and use a needs assessment and experience of a sample of carers and volunteers to develop this toolkit. The project would also look at an international exchange and learning which would provide for learning of both informal carers and volunteers.
